Grand opening of CBSE National Chess Tournament-2017 @ SBPS

  • More than 600 students from around 100 CBSE schools from India and Gulf countries are participating

National Chess Tournament 2017, organized by CBSE was declared open on 14th Nov, 2017 in the premises of Sarala Birla Public School, Ranchi by the chief guest, Honourable Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Raghubar Das.
Around 100 CBSE schools from across the globe are participating in the tournament in which a total of more than 600 chess players are going to exhibit their mastery over the game of chess. Participants from countries like Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Muscat, Dubai etc have assembled for the five day long meet. The game will be played in four age groups viz. under 11 years, under 14 years, under 17 years and under 19 years under the mixed and girls category.
Every nook and corner of the school was adorned with the beautiful tableaus depicting the traditional art forms of Jharkhand, to acquaint the guests and participant with the culture and art of Jharkhand. The newly built auditorium ‘Sarala Birla Kala Mandapam’ was also inaugurated on this occasion by the chief guest, honourable Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Raghubar Das.
The opening ceremony initiated with flag hoisting and a welcome song presented by the pupils of Sarala Birla Public School. The participants then marched to the tunes of the band with their flags waving high beckoning the spirit of sportsmanship and discipline.
The students of the school filled the guest with awe by the depiction of ‘Mahishasur Mardini’. With the colourful costumes and masks, they performed ChauuNritya which was appreciated by all. All were enthralled by the dance performance ‘Igniting Champions’ on the song Waka Waka… The attraction of the show was the live game of chess in which children appeared as mascots and the chief guest played the game.
The chief guest, Honorable Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Raghubar Das congratulated the school management for hosting the tournament. He said that the students today are devoid of the opportunity to ‘play and sweat’. He applauded the efforts of the school for providing an atmosphere suitable for nurturing the budding players and champions. The CBSE National Chess Meet 2017 was declared open by him.
The programme was adorned  by several dignitaries like CEO of All Jharkhand Chess Association, Shri Pritam Singh, CBSE observer Shri R. S. Tiwari etc.
The program culminated with the release of balloons and vote of thanks.
